Who's Working Out? Losing Weight?

  • Aug. 13th, 2008 at 10:15 AM

I started a walking to run program and I start weight training next week.
Someone said the best way to help Tosten thru these tough times is to take care of myself.

A while back, some of you were interested in posting their progress either in weight loss or exercise.

Let's form a custom group if some of you are interested in sharing your progress and giving encouragement.

If you have LJ-SCA friends who want to do this but are not on my LJ list, feel free to forward this to them.
I can add them to my list and the then the group.

Help??? Leather Problem...

  • Aug. 11th, 2008 at 8:49 AM
LOL Question Cross Eyed Cat
I'm working on a project that made of elk hide that has a tendency to get pierced by semi-sharp objects.

Not knife point like piercing, but more like force and strength combined, like a key pushed hard.

Anybody have an idea of a flexible layer I could put under a layer of leather to stop the piercing?

The elk hide cannot become rigid, so hard materials are right out.

Send Healing Energies or Prayer

Many good friends and family with health problems right now.

Tosten's brother was admitted into in Mayo psychiatric ward Sunday night.

In my family, my niece and godchild needs emotional healing to recover from the stillborn birth of her son.

Tosten is having seizures possibly because of too hard a blow to the head. (the two hemispheres sheared when he was struck. Now there is a clot or scar tissue left behind, causing the seizures)

Another fighter from Nordskogen is having medical trouble that is yet undiagnosed.

[info]angry_scotsman has a long recovery from knee surgery and moving from his apartment in August.

[info]falcongirl head/eye isn't being nice either.

Send some prayers or healing energies to these people, if you are so moved.

I believe in your help.

Your result for The hardcore SCA Test ...

The Queen's Champion

You scored 71% hardcore SCA!

You are really involved in the SCA. You probably have some really cool garb. You put a lot of work into playing the game and making sure its fun for others too. For a lot of folks an event wouldn't be the same without you. You probably have a tendancy to over do it sometimes. You may need help knowing when to say "No" or when to stop sewing and go to bed.

We've had 3 ER visits, possible heart attack, to possible stroke.
(It's not in his heart - His heart is in terrificcondition!!!)

The third episode/ER visit on July 4th the ER doctor told us it was a stroke (ER doctor read the MRI & CT scans WRONG), then ten minutes later neurologist told us it was just an ususual expression of a migraine, and he could go home.

Both doctors told us we didn't need to go to the ER again unless the symptoms changed/worsened.

At WW during Royal court, he had episode number four. With Inner Sea's help, I packed up what remained and got up to a hotel room. Again, the episode lasted around four hours.

We had to get back to Minneapolis in the early am to get funeral clothes to return to Rochester for my Niece and Godchild. She had given birth to full-term, stillborn child. The family decided to have the service on WW Sunday (without enough warning for me to bring clothes to WW).

We have a copy of his MRI- It is REALLY COOL! Yes, Tosten does have a brain!

We met Tosten's doctor Wednesday. Previously, Tosten was not allowed to exercise, fight, lift heavy things.

Now, he is not allowed to drive.

Hopefully we will get into the University soon and find a solution to his problem.

To Vlad and [info]petranella, I hope there is endless mango rum for you both!

Tosten has a great heart!

  • Jul. 1st, 2008 at 9:39 AM

Not that I didn't know that already...

He went to the cardiologist who declared his heart was in fantastic shape. What has been happening does not seem to be cardiac-related, at least- it's not started by his heart. He has strong walls, a low resting rate and great cardio. If he doesn't have another incident, he won't see the cardiologist again.

Today, he's having an MRI of his head. Hopefully, they will find a brain.

The WW XV booklet is done, to the printer and under budget. HOORAY!!! You can even read or print it on the WW website: http://www.warriorsandwarlords.org/booklet.html

They say trouble comes in threes. Well, the third shoe did drop on Friday at work.

My boss informs that one of our websites needs a total redesign by July 11. Never mind that the Art department has had the design done for 3 months- do whatever overtime I must to get it done. No holiday 4th for me. No weekend at all for me. (and last weekend was all gone doing the WW booklet).

Lucia is tired. and getting a little crabby.

Mighty Sorcha- Huscarl Slayer!

  • Jun. 28th, 2008 at 9:10 AM

Somehow this true story was omitted from [info]spot1111 Lilies recollection.

Sir Master William of Calontir made four foot long, purple and gold hurley sticks for a big hurley game to be played on the battlefield this Lilies. Hurley is a cross between hockey and lacross. The hurley sticks were given out to various fighters of Calontir, who were told NOT to relinquish them, and to return them to Sir William after the game was played.

Sorcha and I were strolling by the shower building, seeing Squire Cassandra and another female squire of Calontir holding these attractive weapons sticks. We immediately said we wanted one! Cassandra said we could have hers, if we took down this guy standing nearby. I told Sorcha, I needed to be drunk to do this. She replied, "I'll do it!"

Sorcha then dove at this six foot plus Huscarl/squire and knocked him to the gravel and sat on him! By the grimace on his face, he didn't enjoy this at all.

Cassandra gave her hurley Stick, but said she had to return it at the end of the week to Sir William.

Later in the week, word got out to Sir William how Sorcha (A Northshielder and unbelt) had won away one of his hurley sticks, and he gave her the hurley stick to keep as a badge of honor.

Well Done, Sorcha- Huscarl Slayer!

Tosten home and okay!

After another prolonged visit to the ER, Tosten is home and fine. Still no understanding of what is causing PVCs and the severe lightheadness and dizzyness preceding it.

He will be seeing the Cardio Unit at the U to get a thorough workup. Hopefully they can trigger an incident and determine exactly what it is.

We truly appreciate all of the well wishes and concerns, and especially all the wonderful people who helped me pack up camp at Lilies!

A Bad Day

Tosten's heart started going flibbertly again while I'm at home with a plumber.
He's going to Fairview's ER and will call me when he knows more.

The toilet was dripping and was loose at the base and the sub flooring is damaged. This is going to cost at least $500. The stupid Condo Association had the flooring raised long ago because some people didn't like to hear flushing toilets. They didn't however, raise the flanges, and only put in plastic spacers, which they can seal, don't lock tight like a flange.
I think the Association needs to pay for this issue!

I'm working on my DSL on VPN but it's very pokey and everyone and work is hollering for their work first.

I need a drink.

Enuf Excitement at Lilies -

First, Tosten is okay.

Thursday am at Lilies, Tosten's knee hurt so Baroness Eithni recommended a doctor look at it so we went into the emergency room in Liberty. We were prepared for a long, boring wait.

All of a sudden, Tosten felt dizzy, clammy, and short of breath. I grabbed a nurse, my first concern was a blood clot. They wheeled him into ER, and hooked him up to heart monitor.

He was was having PVC's (Pre-ventricular contractions). They did his blood chemistry, put him on an IV, did a chest and leg xray, and a Doppler of his leg to look for clots (there were none). When they sat him up to do a CT scan, his heart rate plummeted to 30. They decided then to not to let him sit up, and to keep him overnight for observation.

The blood work was normal, the CT was normal, the xrays showed nothing. The cardiologists the next day could not agree on any reason for the PVCs or the drop in heart rate. The PVCs stopped overnight after he got some rest and a large dose of the Cartoon Channel.

Tosten's going to follow up with his own doctor and then see cardiologist's at the U.

The bruises the hematologist gave him are alot worse than the fighters at Lilies!!!

Lilies - Who is Going?

Lilies
Tosten and I are going down Thursday Night for the Land Grab on Friday. We are staying for the whole war.

Who else is going to Lilies and how long are you staying?

P.s. Got all my sewing done- All I have left is a little mending and a kirtle hem! YAY!

Crazy World

Vida Loca
I'm off work today because all network systems are down all day.

So I planned to sew vigorously Sunday and Monday for Lilies, as we don't have a 5 days wardrobe anymore (we do laundry mid-Lilies week).
We wake up to no power in the building. Actually, partial power. Our building is wired strangely, and we have power in the master bedroom and the dishwasher, our server and wireless network, but nothing else. No refrigerator, stove AND NO SEWING MACHINES!

So I'm cutting out out everything I can this morning - the part I hate anyway.

List to complete before Lilies: (I'm half way there)
3 Tunics for Me
5 Tunics for Tosten
5 pr Braies
4 pr hosen
2 underdresses
1 Tunic

Tuesday, my co-worker brought a water plant from her goldfish pond that the goldfish were spawning on. They ate some of the eggs before she took it out of the pond, but put in my work aquarium. Today I have teeny, tiny 1/3 cm needle thick baby goldfish!
